Dienstverschiebungsgesuche müssen rechtzeitig und schriftlich gestellt werden. Beizulegen sind Bestätigungen. Gesuche werden schriftlich beantwortet und nur bewilligt, wenn zwingende Gründe vorgebracht werden und wenn es der Dienst erlaubt. Der verschobene Dienst (RS, UOS, OS, Kurse und/oder WK) muss nachgeholt werden.

The Department of Biology awards the following prizes to students each year. The recipients of recent years are listed here.
Award for the Best Basic Examination
This prize is awarded to the student who completes the first year of study with the best result. The award was initiated by Prof. em. Nikolaus Amrhein and consists of a sculpture and a monetary prize.
Award for the Best Bachelor's Degree
This prize is awarded to the student who achieves the best overall result in the Bachelor's degree. The award was donated by Prof. em. Wilhelm Gruissem and consists of a monetary prize.
ETH Medal for an Outstanding Master's Thesis
Requirements:
- Master’s thesis graded 6.0
- Overall Master's degree GPA of at least 5.25
The ETH Medal is awarded to students of D-BIOL who have submitted an outstanding Master's thesis (application by the supervisor, decision by the department). Applications for the ETH Medal must be submitted to the Biology Study Administration Office by August 31. An expert review is obtained to confirm excellence. The award is presented at the Master's graduation ceremony at the end of the year.
The application must include:
- A written justification from the supervisor detailing the exceptional nature of the thesis
- A PDF version of the thesis
- A list of three potential reviewers

Willi Studer Prize
The top graduates of each Master's program at ETH Zurich are honored with the Willi Studer Prize. This prize is funded from the estate of entrepreneur Dr. h.c. Willi Studer and has been awarded since 1993. It considers graduates from October 1 of the previous year to September 30 of the current year. The award is presented at the annual Master's graduation ceremony at the end of the year.
