Research area

Besides bacterial and viral pathogens, some fungi are clinically highly relevant. The rising incidence of fungal infections and the increase of resistance against classical antifungal drugs necessitate the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. For this however, a better understanding of microbial pathogenesis and the host immune response is indispensable. Understanding the host-pathogen interactions leading to antifungal immunity is the main focus of Salomé LeibundGut's research. She is particularly interested in the molecular and cellular events leading to T cell activation during fungal infection and in the effector mechanisms exerted by these cells to mediate host protection.

Salomé LeibundGut-Landmann is Associate Professor of Immunology ad personam at the University of Zürich, Switzerland.

She was born 1973 in Basel, Switzerland.

Salomé LeibundGut-Landmann studied biology at ETH Zurich and graduated 1998 with a Diploma (Dipl. Natw. ETH). She obtained her PhD in biology from the University of Geneva in 2003 (first-class honours).

2003-2004 she was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Professor Walter Reith at the Institute of Pathology and Immunology of the University of Geneva.

2004-2008 she spent as a postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Caetano Reis e Sousa at the London Research Institute –Cancer Research, London, UK.

2008-2009 she worked as a senior postdoc in the Laboratory of Professor Annette Oxenius at the Institute for Microbiology of ETH Zurich.

2010-2015 she has been an Assistant Professor (SNFS Professorship from the Swiss National Science Foundation) at the Institute for Microbiology, Department of Biology.
