About us

The Department of Biology is one of 16 departments at ETH Zurich, consisting of six institutes and two stand-​alone chairs that research various fields in Biology (biochemistry, structural biology, molecular and cellular biology, microbiology, molecular health sciences, systems biology and plant biology). A variety of experimental systems are used to clarify fundamental questions in biology. The research within the department revolves around the study of relationships between structure and function at all levels of biological systems. Examples of this include the dependencies of biomolecules and their ligands; the dependencies of biomolecules and cell structure; the detection processes between cells, tissues and the functioning of the entire organism.
