The second year
Two types of classes are offered in the second year: core subjects and elective modules.
All students are required to take the core subjects. These courses provide the fundamental knowledge necessary to continue in the biology program. The core subjects include cell biology, genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology, microbiology, plant biology, systems biology, anatomy and physiology, bioinformatics, statistics and finally analytics and physical chemistry. All lectures are supplemented by labs in biology and organic chemistry.
Furthermore, undergraduates choose an elective module based solely on their field of interest within biology. There are no future restrictions associated with the choice of electives in the second year. The following elective modules are offered:
- biodiversity
- cellular and molecular biology
- biological chemistry
Course distribution is as follows: 2/3 of the workload comes from the core courses. The elective modules represent 1/3 of the workload.
