Study programme (until autumn 2019)
In the first year of study all students receive the same in-depth scientific knowledgebase. This is conveyed to provide a strong foundation for further studies in subsequent semesters. During this time theory is applied through in-class exercises as well as hands-on practice.
The second year consists of significant core subjects essential to all undergraduates. In addition, all undergraduates must choose one within three so called elective modules (biodiversity, cellular and molecular biology, biological chemistry).
The third year finally is designed to prepare undergraduates for the successful transition into the masters program. After two years of theoretical learning with some applied practice, undergraduates receive their first real insight into scientific research. The third year provides a vast selection of activities and presentations from which the undergraduates can identify where their interests lie. Two separate kinds of lectures are offered during the third year: the block courses and the concept courses. Undergraduates are free to choose their electives regardless of the specialty chosen during their second year of study.
