Study programme

In the fall of 2020, ETH Zurich launched a completely new biology degree course based on the evolution of life. Evolution as a common thread allows the subject matter to be structured in such a way that more general laws and relationships are highlighted and less isolated factual knowledge is taught, as is usual in the traditional course structure.

In the first and second years of study, students receive in-depth training in the basic scientific subjects. This forms the basis for further studies in the higher semesters. Lectures in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and statistics are supplemented by exercises to consolidate what has been learned. Laboratory practicals are also carried out in all semesters of the first and second years of study, alternating between biology and chemistry.
