The Wound Healer

Sabine Werner established her first research group at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried in the early 1990s. The topic she had already become interested in earlier: wound healing. In its Saturday edition, the Swiss newspaper "Tages-Anzeiger" has dedicated a longer article to her and her field of research.

The field of research was somewhat ridiculed at the time, Sabine Werner  of the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences (Department of Biology) said. Those days are long gone. Today, research into wound healing has gained so much importance and attention that "University Medicine Zurich" (the network of the two universities at the location Zurich and the University Hospitals) has dedicated a flagship project to it: external page "SKINTEGRITY". The project is headed by Sabine Werner. No fewer than 25 research groups, whose diverse competences need to be coordinated, are involved and contribute their expertise.
