Emma Wetter Slack receives Tenure Track Assistant Professorship
On application of the ETH President, the ETH Board appoints Emma Wetter Slack as Assistant Professor of Food Immunology. She is currently head of a research group at the Institute of Microbiology (D-BIOL) at ETH Zurich. The new professorship will be located at D-HEST.
In 2011 Emma Wetter Slack received an Ambizione fellowship from the SNSF and joined Wolf-Dietrich Hardt's group as senior scientist. Since then, she has been working on the function of adaptive immunity in the control of bacterial replication and clearance kinetics in the intestine. In 2017 she was also the winner of the 2017 Latsis Prize of ETH Zurich.
Using novel oral vaccines, Emma Wetter Slack was able to uncover a previously unknown mechanism by which antibodies in the intestine protect the host from bacteria. She now wants to make her findings quickly applicable in clinical and veterinary practice. In D-HEST the new discipline Immunology will be integrated into the research area Food, Nutrition and Health.
