Through the programme, EMBO identifies and supports some of the best researchers under 40 years of age who are in the process of building up their own laboratory. Twelve of the new EMBO Young Investigators are female (46%) and 14 are male (54%). The EMBO Young Investigators benefit from a variety of networking and training opportunities and have access to core facilities at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. Starting in January 2022, they will join a network of 130 current and 368 former members of the programme and are active members in the programme for four years. The D-BIOL congratulates Stefanie Jonas to this great success!

The Jonas lab studies RNA processing machineries and their involvement in RNA-protein complex (RNP) assembly in the nucleus of human cells at a molecular level. They look at all steps from RNA transcription, and maturation to quality control of the final RNP. Using a wide range of approaches from structural biology, to biochemical assays in vitro and functional assays in cells, the research goal is a mechanistic understanding of RNP biogenesis.

About EMBO

external pageEMBO is an organization of more than 1800 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond. The major goals of the organization are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate the exchange of scientific information, and help build a research environment where scientists can achieve their best work.

EMBO helps young scientists to advance their research, promote their international reputations and ensure their mobility. Courses, workshops, conferences, and scientific journals disseminate the latest research and offer training in techniques to maintain high standards of excellence in research practice. EMBO helps to shape science and research policy by seeking input and feedback from our community and by following closely the trends in science in Europe.
