Julia Vorholt elected EMBO member
In its press release of 11 June, the European Molecular Biology Organisation announces who has been appointed EMBO member in 2019. One of the 56 newly elected members is Julia Vorholt, group leader at the Institute of Microbiology of the Department of Biology.
The primary interest of the Vorholt laboratory is to learn how bacterial physiology is shaped by the environment with a focus on the plant microbiota. Functional analyses are performed at different hierarchical scales, from the level of metabolites and proteins, to individual cells, to bacterial communities, to plant-microbe interactions and the ecosystem. The research involves a range of complementary disciplines and approaches, including metabolomics, (meta)proteomics, transcriptomics, microscopy, metabolic engineering, as well as novel tools in nanotechnology for single cell analysis.
