Winner of the ALEA Award 2020: Ulrike Kutay

The «ALEA Award» honours leaders who enable advanced and innovative working conditions and who promote and support actively the reconciliation of work, family and avocational engagement. It was this year awarded to Prof. Ulrike Kutay, Professor of Biochemistry at the D-BIOL's Institute of Biochemistry.

A good leadership style distinguishes itself through allowing employees to exploit their full potential and develop optimally. All supervisors with an advanced and innovative leadership style are suitable to be nominated for the «ALEA Award» by their employees. Every year, all employees of ETH Zurich are contacted and invited to propose their supervisor and describe her/his leadership style by giving examples.

The jury selects an awardee based on the criteria for an advanced and innovative leadership style. It is composed of one ombudsperson and a representative of each the human resources department, the staff commission, AVETH and the Office of Equal Opportunities - Equal!. It is completed by an independent external expert of the office UND. The award was handed over to Ulrike Kutay at the ALEA Award ceremony which took place at the ETH Townhall Meeting on Tuesday, 23 February 2021.
